My computer is getting old and I want a new processor to have for case of emergency.
I need to make sure what i get will be compatible with what i have. I don't think they make my old processor anymore and would like a faster one anyway if it would work.
Currently have amd Athlon 64 x2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHZ socket AM2 Processor
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nFORCE 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD
So motherboard is designed for AM2. Does that mean I could not use a AM3 in it? So to update my system would I have to get new motherboard too? And then maybe my ram or other stuff would have issues...
Would appreciate some advice. I am going to be building a new one (with Windows 7 YUK) but would like to keep this old one going since its XP and has a ton of stuff I want to keep.
