Is Windows 7 in 2013 still good?

So windows 8 is out and has been for a while but I was wondering if going with windows 7 for my first build is a good idea. Well devs stop making games for windows 7. Is windows 7 in 2013 still a good option?

Windows 7 will have extended support until 2020.
Overall windows 7 is a solid OS and game developers will still be making games for windows 7 for years to come.
If you like windows 8 user experience and the fast start up time compared to windows 7 then you have to make the right choice.
Some people prefer windows 8 but I will stick with Windows 7 since I had no problems with it and it does what I need to.

most developers still support XP, forget 7, and this will continue till XP loses official support from MS in April next year after a full 12 years of life-cycle, all versions of Windows are expected to have tak at least a 10 yr life cycle
