Hello people,

Does anyone recommend a cheap effective antivirus for a server + network of 30 users. I do not want to spend more than £350 for an annual subscription.

I would need firewall + AV.

cheers,

AirTech

You can go for AVG Server edition on AVG.COM, look at it.

Personally, I think AVG does better job than Avast based on personal experience. Looking at the bright side of all things not even mentioning it performs better, AVG happens to be cheaper.

Like the avast it would cost much more with firewall, i can black list addresses on the router. Maybe i can get an open source firewall to sit on the router?

Depending on your router. I know on netgear you just simply go to "192.168.1.1" and simply type in addresses you would wish to black list. In case you wish to so through AVG, of course it can be done through there. You can do E-mail addresses as well as Web addresses. It's all explained here by an AVG moderator:

For 30 users, you'd need more than a home router with a firewall, the performance would be bad. Check on some of the enterprise routers. You may also setup a proxy server for web traffic.

Or, he can get Wireless Extenders. Connect one to straight to the router and one to the Wireless.

Not sure how an extender will help, the issue is the speed of the router handling all that traffic, home routers can't handle that many connections well if at all. An extender would help with wifi speed a bit, but not with building to ISP speeds.

Sonicwall has a wonderful content filtering system. It is an annual subscription on their Sonicwall products, but instead of being based on specific input blacklist and whitelist websites, it's based on content categories, such as pornography, violence, etc. This is so much less maintenance and more effective than maintaining big website allow/block lists.

I suggest looking into AVG Cloudcare. Have it at one of our clients businesses and it works really well.

Its centrally managed through a web interface which makes things so much easier. You can log in from anywhere and run scans, updates etc on any of your machines. You also get alerts and reports so you can see which PC's need attention.
