Hi Guys,
i tried looking up for the answer on the above but didnt find a very specific solution for the same, so if i am repeating the question, please excuse me for the same...

I have a Mac Mini (recently bought) with an i7 Quad Core & 8GB Memory upgrade.

The issue which i am currently facing is that we are into Design industry where our file sizes are huge and sometimes in 20-30gb per file of a Video / Working copy of a project etc.

We are primarily working on windows platform with a windows 2008 server.

I have created a mobile profile of my user on my macmini ( I am the administrator of the server as well ;)  ) and i have managed to connect the Mac to the windows network so the homefolder etc will be synced (facing issues in syncing my homefolder but thats another issue will discuss later).

i tried to copy a zipped project form my windows server backup to the mac and after it copies about appx 4GB of file, it stops and wont copy any further.

i have tried this with multiple types of files including .avi, .rar, .zip, .mov, .psd etc and i keep getting the same issue.

I checked the info of my disc and it shows as following:

Version: 10.8.4
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Capacity: 999.35 GB
Available: 887.04 GB

I have the read & write permissions as well.

it will be great if you experts could help me on this one please.

BTW: I forgot to mention 1 important thing here, while making the transfer of files, i am using a remote desktop to connect to my server and from there i am copying the files onto my Mac\

/Users/XXX/Documents/ path (in remote desktop there is an option where it allows server to see my mac user drive while i am logged in to the server remotely.)

I am using "smb" to connect to the local windows network.

Please let me know if i am doing something wrong.

I have found SMB on the Mac to be slow and unreliable. I would recommend that you look into using FTP for the file transfer.

hi rgd1101,
the server is windows 2008 and is using NTFS, so its definitely not the server FS problem.

hi Ijack,
thanks ... i would take the advise into consideration; but i guess this is not the issue of unreliable or slow connection as i tried it with multiple files and every file stopped at almost the same point at around 4GB(ish) which led me to believe that it has an issue with 4GB limit or something. but as suggested, i would definitely try with FTP and see the results.

will keep you'll posted on the same.

Thanks so much for your revert guys. if anyone has come across the same issue and has solved it in the past, please let me know this will be greatly appreciated.

I think RGD is on the right path. It's not the server you need to worry about but the mini. (you are using the mini to connect to the server right? And it won't copy from server to mini after 4GBs?) I don't know anything about mac FS so look into whatever you are using and file size limits. I ran into this issue before using windows and FAT32. It's what made me start using NTFS.

No. HFS has no issues with files over 4Gb. But a quick search via Google shows that a lot of people have problems with SMB on OS X and large files. It may be possible to fix this by tuning the Samba parameters, but you will still be left with much slower transfers than FT P.
