Okay so what I have picked out so far was heavily swayed by discounts on each item so I kind of got away from what I had originally planned and ended up going for upgrades that had discount. I don't need wireless/bluetooth, I will be using a 24" benq monitor that I already have, dont need optical drive, speakers, or OS, and would prefer quite+cool options where applicable. It will be in my bedroom in apartment so I can't have a warm machine in there, I sweat enough as it is haha. (one of the reasons I opted for a 4670 instead of 3570k/4670k - not sure if I want to spend a lot trying to keep an overclocked cpu cool).

This is what I came up with:

Case: Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107 --- $79.99 (after $20 instant rebate)

PSU: Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-750 750W
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182133 --- $79.99 (after $40 instant rebate)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116898 --- $224.99 (after $5 instant rebate)

CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 --- $32.99 (after $10 instant rebate)

Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157378 --- $109.99 (after $10 instant, $30 mail-in rebate)

Video Card: MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127745 --- $279.99 (after $10 instant rebate)

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226337 --- $122.99 (after $7 instant rebate)

SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247 --- $119.99

HDD: Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 --- $89.99 (after $60 mail-in rebate)

Total: $1,160.91

It will be used primarily for gaming, occasional photo and basic video editing, but will also be getting heavy use during school.

Would prefer intel > amd as I believe intel's typically run cooler and quieter?

If it was at all possible to get something comparable with this, but at the ~$1000 range I would be a lot happier. Also note that this will be getting shipped to Canada, but don't consider that as part of the budget. Not opposed to OCing but im not sure if its worth it for me if I want to keep it cool and quiet and can't quite convince myself to dish out money for extreme cooling if I'm not sure I need to OC.

Thanks!

edit - price change

You should get a 2x4gb kit of ram, 16gb won't benefit your performance except in editing, and its not worth just the casual edit.

You should also change the psu, don't skimp on a power supply because your whole system depends on it. Get one from antec, corsair, seasonic, or xfx, in no order.

Other than that it looks like a very solid build, I didn't know that asrock released fatal1ty version for the 1150 platform.

ditto on the 8GB of ram, it's plenty for everything besides multiple VM's and HD editing. Ditto on the PSU as well. Another place you could shave is the HDD, many 1TB drives are around $60, the blacks are always the highest price in their segment (though they are a bit better than others). Other than that it looks great

+1 to Jaxem on the hard drive. I didn't notice it at all. Especially when you have an ssd, the performance of the storage drive matters much less since boot times and os response times depend on the ssd. The only thing that depends on the hard drive is the files like movies, pics, music, docs that you store on it and they don't require speed at all. Other than that only your games will be stored on the hard drive and they will just load a few seconds slower at most.

Thanks for the input guys. In regards to the PSU, are you more so saying that 750W is fine and I should just upgrade to a better brand for a higher quality PSU or are you saying that 750W isn't enough and I should upgrade to 850 or something along with upgrading to a better brand?
