I'm wanting to bring my AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (Thuban) to 4.0GHz. I have an MSI 890FXA-GD70 motherboard. I'm running a third party cooler that keeps my current 3.3GHz, 6-core CPU at 21-23C on idle, and from what I've read, I believe I will have no issue overclocking to 4.0GHz, but there's so many settings! I have an NZXT Phantom case with two top fans... I have an Antec 900W PSU, etc... I was told I should easily be able to handle 4.0GHz, but I don't understand what to do in the BIOS to unlock my voltage, etc, so that I can adjust the right settings.

I've search for someone with my identical hardware, doing a step-by-step, but to no avail.

Could anyone help me get in the right direction?

Thanks,
Zach

*Use the Overclocking Genie software.

I think it's named "MSI Control Center (W8)" if you look at the motherboard support site. This is the link to the Windows 7 64-bit section:
http://ca.msi.com/product/mb/890FXA-GD70.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win7%2064

You should be able to simply select the overclock you want, then reboot. After which I suggest you do the following:
1) Enter the BIOS to check that the MEMORY frequency doesn't exceed specs (or is too low)

2) run MEMTEST to test your memory

3) run Prime95 to test the CPU

*Always test the CPU and RAM if you change to an overclock you've never used.
*Use the Overclocking Genie software.

Okay that's awesome... I know I ran that once before... I was able to get the voltage to unlock at one point, but I just can't remember how. I wasn't sure if AMD Overdrive in Catalyst was locking it or what. Thanks for the help. I'll try this, and get back to you :)

EDIT: I have Control Center open, but like I said, all of this is new to me, and I have no idea what I'm looking at. I basically need a good 4.0GHz overclock preset that I can use.

I'm not good at inferring what to do from other articles I've read, which reference overclocking in general, and not this specific motherboard/CPU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
