Hello everyone. I am on board a vessel...The ECDIS (electronic chart) is an old pc running in unix.. When i turn it on, blue screen-beeps-and message CPU FAN FAILED turn off in 7.6.5.4.3 etc. So the operation began. I switched the fan 0.21A with another compatible i found 0.15A..I beleive the ampers doesn't matter.Anyway ..result...nothing...same story...I checked the fan if its operational in the fan#1 slot...The new one is working there....the old no....So after installing it in the fan 1 slot the result is the same...Please give me your lights...what should i do...I m in the middle of the atlantic without any spares and lack of knowlledge...I dont even know how to get into bios...I tried every F1-F12 del but nothing...I just hope that the motherboard is still operational...I m looking forward for some suggestions....Thanks...

Solution
1. You might be able to reset the CMOS if you can find the two pins and jumper them. Obviously it would help to know what motherboard you have but I guess you don't.

2. What Operating System you have doesn't matter fo the BIOS. It doesn't even boot the OS until after the POST (Power On Self Test) is finished. Your issue is solely with the motherboard.

3. It does sound like your motherboard is defective though. CPU FAN issue. Can't enter BIOS...
CPU FAN:
It must be the same VOLTAGE, and not exceed the AMPERAGE that the fan connector can put out. So if it's LESS Amp's that's fine, but again must be the same VOLTAGE.

If the new fan also fails, your problem is not the fan unless the 2nd one is also defective. (You could also test as long as you had a compatible voltage source for the pins on the fan).

*Honestly, not sure what kind of help you can expect if you don't have access to parts. It does sound like the motherboard has died bot I think you are SOL. Sorry.

Usually on boot you can press delete and enter the bios, once there you can go to the monitor tab and in the fans drop down you can select ignore the CPU fan to get past that message. If when your booting the CPU fan is spinning then you can continue but if the fan is not then it will need to shut down until you can get a fan that works.

Thank you for your replies...I just trying to figuer out how to access bios setup so i could turn off the cpu fan monitoring. I ve already mannaged to stole power for the cpu fan from the outer fan#1 slot..I know thats not the perfect way but that could give me some time to operate the system untill i could replace it. So the problem is that i cannot enter to bios...Once i turn on the system, after few seconds (10'') the screen turns blue and the cpu fan failure appears. How can i get into bios? I ve tried delete-F12- F2 ...but nothing....( the operating system is linux)..

I ve tried it...i pressed all the F keys DEL ALT/CNTRL/DEL ...I cannot have access to system bios and i cannot find any battery attached to motherboard so i could reset it. I checked the power supply to the pins that connected to the cpu fan and its just fine..12volts...so it isn't dammaged....it just dont get the order to work..I believe if i could have access to bios i could fix it...unless its a fatal motherboard error that appears with that message...
