I bought a pre-owned Sony Vaio notebook that had no working drivers for the built-in webcam. Restoring the notebook to factory settings installed a plethora of Vaio-labelled programs, but no drivers for the webcam. Googling "sony vaio drivers" brought me to the support page for the VPCCB3P1E/B model laptop which I own, and there are no webcam/camera drivers to download for it. Restoring the laptop to factory settings gives me the program WebCam Companion 4, which says there is no camera connected to the laptop. Other models of Sony Vaio notebooks have utilities and drivers for webcams built into those machines, but obviously installing them on the wrong model of laptop (like mine) would just not work. Installing a generic "USB2.0 Camera" driver brought me no luck either.

I have a non-functional camera built-in into my laptop and have failed to find a way to activate or use it after reformatting this laptop several times over. Either the solution is incredibly obvious and I've just magically managed to avoid it for the past week, or it's incredibly obtuse. What am I supposed to do here? I just want my webcam to work.

At first I had assumed this was for compatibility issues with connecting Ricoh digital cameras to the notebook. If the webcam inside the notebook is Ricoh-made than that's a different story. (EDIT: The product details page for the VPCCB3P1E notebook says nothing about Ricoh, but that the webcam is "powered by "Exmor"".) Unfortunately downloading and running the software brings me an error screen (whether it's run on my only user account, or Run as Administrator):
