Hi,

I just got everything assembled. Here is my configuration:
CPU: i7 4930K
RAM: 64GB G.Skill Rigjaw Z DDR3 1333 (BIOS detects the memory alright)
MoBo: ASUS Rampage Extreme IV (BIOS flashed to the latest version)
Water Cooler: Corsair H100i

Here is a bit description of what is going on.

After the machine turns on, I can hear the first beep rather loud, at that time H100i LED color is white, and its fans are running.
Then the board resets, the H100i's LED becomes red (the fans are still running), I hear another beep followed by 4 short beeps, which I guess it means Hardware Component Failure during POST according to the mobo user guide. And then the screen shows "CPU FAN ERROR" before I can enter the BIOS screen. The temp is around 65C when I got the the BIOS screen and keep climbing to 83C in around 5 seconds. Then I will keep going up slowly, I just immediately turned the thing off @ 85C to avoid any further damage.

The H100i 3pin wire is plugged into the CPU_FAN connector, but the board just can't detect it. I also tried resit the cooler, still the same error and outrage temperature. The board can't detect the fan.

And guess what is going on?

This is my first build, call me noob if you want, I feel like I am near the finish line though :) I am suspending the H100i pump is not working, but I don't know how to verify that. I would really appreciate for any input.

thanks a advance!

no, it doesn't come with any stock cooler, what a shame :/

I know the CPU just came out like 2 weeks ago, but is the temperature normal?

Yeah, both the 3PIN cable and SATA power are connected. If I unplug the SATA cable, the cooler doesn't even turn on. I also plug a 120mm fan's 3PIN connector to the CPU_FAN slot, the board detects the 120mm fan alright.

Thanks of checking it out for me. Yeah, there are 3 connectors. The two I described earlier are for power, the usb connector is also plugged in according to the setup manual.

I am kind of hoping someone has a similar setup can share the experience and see if cooler is indeed faulty.

I think the pump LED is a good indication of the cables are connecting. I am not quite sure if the way my cooler showing the color patterns indicates a problem though: first it show white light and then it turns red. I am also not quite sure if this is the normal temperature other folks are getting.
The problem is I can't do RMA through neweggs, since I bought the cool back in April with the intention of going for the 3930k, but later changed my mind and gone for the ivy bridge update.
Maybe I will ask Corsair for the RAM since it's still in 1 year warranty period.

You could try picking up a cheap air cooler maybe just to make sure it's a cooler problem. Get one that you know is easy to put in as you just want it to test to see if its just a cooler problem. Unless you want to test your current cooler in another computer

Although I don't know what the return policy on used coolers is, they might not be happy to find thermal compound wedged into the heatsink if you don't manage to get it all off
