Slower than expected read/write for Intel 520 240GB

Hello,

I've had an Intel 520 SSD installed for about 2 months now and so far I am pleased with the performance. I was running Windows Experience Index as I did some tweaking to my video card (wanted to raise the score), and I noticed that I lost a few points on my SSD. When I first installed it/loaded Windows, my SSD scored a 7.9. A week later or so, I ran the test again, and I got a 7.8. Last night it was 7.6 (I know WEI score doesn't mean much...). So I decided to try a benchmark program. I downloaded AS SSD, and I'm averaging ~300MB read write and ~200MB write. From what I've read, I should get ~500 read and ~400+ write...so I'd like to see if I can increase it. While the drive does feel pretty quick (load times, etc), I don't notice a difference from my Intel x25 80GB (SSD from which I upgraded).

- I tried running the Intel Toolbox optimizer...no change
- Enabled TRIM through the Toobox...no change
- I stopped antivirus/spyware...no change
- Made the SSD is plugged in to a 6gb SATA port

Again, I know WEI doesn't mean squat...but I know this drive should be scoring a 7.9, and my speeds should be higher.

Here is my setup:

Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD
Velociraptor 1GB (storage 1)
Western Digital Green 2GB (storage 2)
Core i7 2600k (stock)
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (PC3 12800)
GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD5-B3
EVGA GTX 580 SSC
Windows 7 Ultimate 64

NOW, I am in IDE mode according to BIOS...being that I have already installed Windows, I do not want to change to AHCI and jack my system, having to reinstall anyway. However, my real question is...if I go down the reinstall path, and prior to installing Windows I set the SATA mode to AHCI, could this potentially correct the "performance issues"? Could there be anything else that I"m missing, or will AHCI vs IDE make that much of a difference?

Any input would be greatly appreciated...please let me know if I can provide additional information. I did do a search on this forum (as well as a pretty extensive Google search) and couldn't find any other suggestions, or additional information about whether or not AHCI make that much of a significant performance impact over IDE.

Thanks!

Thanks very much! I think I'd rather do a clean install if I'm going to go down that path anyway, just to make sure I have a fresh install after making the change. Sounds like a reinstall is in order :)

Thanks again!
