Hey guys,

So - I know just enough about video cards to get by; but I'm pretty nervous about dropping money on something that might do damage to my system, or just not work at all.

Realistically, I only game outside of WoW rarely (Tomb Raider, The sims3, etc) so I don't need anything too flashy - but I do want something that will last me a while. I've currently got a Nvidia Geforce GT 240 but it's been overheating a LOT. I've tried using Afterburner to tune the fan up and the core/memory down, but it's only made the situation worse.

Any thoughts on a new video card that will last me a while and get the job done?
Thanks!

Solution

The PSU could be causing some problems for sure. Prebuilt PCs are of terrible quality. I recommend starting fresh. Keep the optical drive and hard drive but trash the rest. If you need any help with building a new one I certainly can :)

Like I said, I really only know the basics and that's probably a stretch. Could that have anything to do with the overheating issues I've been having. I've had this computer for about 4 years, give or take and this has been an ongoing issue.

Would you recommend just starting fresh with a new PC and upgrading from there?

Great, thanks a lot! Like I said, I only really play wow and this has done the job for a few years, but I'm starting to hit a wall with all the over heating.

I really appreciate the help and the offer for future help! I'll probably be back haha
