Hey guys,
I have a Optiplex 740 and would like to install a larger hard drive to store ripped BD movies. the Dell spec sheet says the maximum hard drive size is 250 Gb as seen in the link below:

Is this for real? is 250 Gb really the most I can add to this, or will i need to get an external hard drive?

Also would like to replace the dvd drive with a blu ray drive to rip the movies with. Is possible with this computer?

Thanks in advanced.

Solution
You misunderstood the specs. 250GB is the largest drive that Dell offers as an option.
You can buy any size drive you want up to 2TB. A motherboard has to have a UEFI BIOS (which yours doesn’t have) in order to use a drive larger than 2TB as a boot drive.

Yes, you can add a Blu-ray drive to your system. You just need an available SATA port on your motherboard to plug it into.

Solution
If you want to use the 4TB drive as a boot drive then 1st you would have to initialize it using the GPT partitioning scheme.
After doing that you could then create 2 2TB partitions. You should then be able to install Windows to one of the partitions. I’ve never heard of anyone doing that so I can’t tell you if it would definitely work.

If you don’t want to install Windows to the drive and just want to use it as a data/storage/backup drive then you don’t need a UEFI BIOS; you just have to initialize it as GPT. You will then be able to use the entire 4TB.
