laptop RAM modules very hot

Working on a Satellite A100, trying to solve heat issues. I've cleaned out all dust etc...from the fan, board, casing, everywhere I could find it. Replaced the thermal paste.
This laptop runs very nicely, faster and smoother than before being serviced. The CPU and fan areas (when touched on the back of the machine) are just barely warm, the fan runs intermittently and blows warm air, no longer hot. No operational issues, hanging, or shut downs anymore.
But the RAM modules themselves remain so hot they cannot be touched, therefore the back of the machine is constantly very hot to the touch.
My question is - can this be resolved, and will this cause other failures, or is this "normal", especially given the machine's age? The RAM was upgraded from 2 x 512 mb, to 2 x 1GB, using a matched set.
Double checked the speed, latency, etc....

ANy ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated.!

Yeah if you use lower frequency ram the motherboard should be backwards compatible, definately give that a crack

Thanks, I'll see if the BIOS will allow that. Although not sure if my customer is willing to buy the cooling stand!

UPDATE: No option in the BIOS to allow for that.....always disliked Phoenix for that...
Maybe if I use lower speed RAM?
