Haswell i5-4670k cpu temps with H100i

Hi - I just built my first system with a Haswell i5-4670k cpu and a ASUS Z87-Pro mobo as well as an H100i cooler with a couple of noctua 120 fans and my cpu temp at idle seems high - currently around 84 degrees F.

I was expecting it to be much lower when just setting it up and running windows for example. I am not sure what the idle temperature should be for this CPU/cooler combination. I would appreciate any advice from anyone with a similar system.

If it is too high, I would think a good place to start would be to re-seat the CPU cooler head over the CPU... is that usually the issue? Any other things I should do before/instead?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Scott

Thanks for your reply. Really?! I mean I was not stressing it at all, but simply browsing the internet, installing drivers etc. I was thinking it would be in the 60's-70's at idle and then ramp up once I started trying to OC it. I thought you wanted to keep it below the mid 90's to avoid damage, which is not that far from 84. :) I guess I was wrong...

Thanks again.

I've got the same CPU and Motherboard, but with a kraken x60.

I usually get 25-28 degrees Celsius at idle. Perfectly normal.

Under 30 degrees Celsius for idle is great mate!

With your cooler you can get a decent overclock.

I just pushed mine to 4.6 ghz without breaking 70 Celsius!

Purchased a h100i refurb from frys for $70. It was refurb from the company and was packed/looked like new. this was installed on a 4670k which is set in an Asus z87-deluxe with 4 way optimization (1 click overclocking). (ps, stock h100i fans have been replaced with noctua nf-f12 fans)

4wo (4 way opt) takes my CPU to 4.5ghz with this cooler, but does not keep it there when i am transcoding mkv files to blu ray using MultiAVCHD, i end up getting a blue screen.

i dropped it down to 4.1ghz and i am running fine, i might be able to get 4.2-4.4, but dont want to waste hours transcoding to find out it will blue screen half way through.

my main issue with this setup, the corsair link software. you can set custom curves for your fans to rev up to X speed at X temp. BUT, the software only lets you use the h100i temp, NOT the cpu temp.

this is the issue, the h100i temp might go up 5 degrees when your cpu temp will jump from 32-65 degrees. it took me a while to figure this out, and i had to set my fan curve accordingly. at first i had my fan speeds go up at 30,35,40,45,50 degrees (based on h100i temp), but the h100i never reached those temps. now my corsair link settings are more like 30,31,32,33,34. corsair link also offers NO adjustment on the pump speed, it is always on 1 setting.

4wo lets you set fans to cpu temp, i wish corsair link did too. though, i did read in multiple forums that the temp of your cpu is minimally effected by the speed of your fans on the radiator. so having them on slow to max might drop it a couple degrees.

i guess i wish there was a better way to integrate Asus 4wo to work with the h100i. What are your guys h100i settings in corsair link, maybe mine or not the optimum?
