I have a hard drive that I removed from a windows Vista computer and placed in an external enclosure in an attempt to pull some pictures and documents off of it. The Vista computer would not boot from the drive or from a cd with a fresh hard drive installed. When I plug in the hard drive into a basic Dell Windows 8 computer or my xp laptop it starts to load then causes the BSOD on both systems. Any ideas on how to get the computer to recognize this hd? HD is a Hitachi 500 gb hard drive from a stock HP Pavilion A6500f Enclosure is a xtrastor 3.5 SATA/scsi enclosure and other hd's work fine in it. I do not have any others that are this big, but I do have a 320gb one that works fine

My only other computer is an old Vaio laptop, so I am kind of stuck with the enclosure as an only option. I am thinking of trying to boot off a linux flash drive on the laptop. Is this a difficult thing to do?
