Our home router had too many devices connected to it so we decided to use a separate device to take care of all our wireless requiring devices for the entire home. This seemed to fix all our problems except for my laptop. Now every 30 seconds or so, the internet on my laptop disconnects for about 4 seconds and comes back;It also frequently ping spikes.

I will say however whenever I use cable it's completely fine. (Also it doesn't matter whether others in my home are using internet, but that does make the spikes more common.)

Does anyone know why this is happening?

It could be an issue with your channel that you're using on your routers settings. I would suggest that you login to your router and try different channels 1,6, and 11 to start with. If there is an auto channel setting try that as well.

If the slightest frequency that is similar to your wifi freq, it will interfere with your setup causing drops from your network. It could be as simple as a microwave frequency. If that still is giving you issues, try moving the router itself to somewhere more central to your network setup.
