Hey guys I am looking into building my first pc. With the new generation of consoles coming out, I thought it might be a good time to try something new. Now i have seen a million builds on gaming pcs online but what i want is something a little different. I do want to do some sort of gaming on there but i was looking into making a pc that i could do my artwork on. I am a traditional artist but i want to see how digital art would be. I want to get into game design later on so i am looking for a pc build that would help me in both gaming and designing.

I have done quite a bit of reading and a couple problems i run into is i7 4770k vs i7 3770k. I heard that intel does a "tick-tock" style production. I guess its like the iphone 4 to the iphone 4s, where the real upgrade would be from the iphone 4 to the iphone 5. If i go with the 3770k, the parts are slightly cheaper but it is almost the same price as the 4770k. The 4770k is the latest but i have also read about something called the "skybridge" that might be released. And the skybridge woul be the chip that brings real innovation compared to what haswell is right now.

Program wise some of names i keep hearing about is Unigine and 3D mark 11.
Do you guys have any other suggestions in things i should use? I am planning to use CS6 Photoshop or maybe something like art rage 4 pro. I might also try using a wacom bamboo drawing tablet with this pc.

If i picked the 3770k this is what i would use:
Mpower z77 or asus formula 5
850w plus gold psu ( not sure what company yet)
Kingston hyper x 16gb 8x2
GTX 770 or 780 or 660ti (sli) or 760 (sli) not sure what company to go with but EVGA seems the best
120gb ssd
2tb hd
h100i
cm storm scout 2 advanced (already bought)

4770k build would be just like the top but i would use asus formula 6 or mpower z87 or sniper 5

Now one last part to this whole thing is what kind of gpu should i be looking for? Should i plan for the future and just buy the gtx 780 with plans on sli or should i go for the power now and sli weaker cards like the 660 ti or 760. Or would i be fine with 770, but i would be close to the price point of the 780 i might as well upgrade?

Thanks

Do you want to save some bucks? If you buy 3770k it costs about 300?
Here is the deal. Intel xeon 1230V2 is same chpi as the 3770 but lot cheaper.
You can NOT oc this. But do you really want to do that? Then you can save mobo + cooler this chip is lot cooler than 3570k and faster. It do have HT + 8 Treads.

and xeon is same price as the 3570k

So you have i7 for a price i5. :)

Only thing that xeon do have (this chip) is iGPU. But that you do not need because you have video card.

I made build. This do have GTX 680 It is bit older card but it was cheap now. It still really fast and good card. Now normal price is over 500 and this 360 ! PSU was full 1000w bit overkill but it was cheap and id do harm to have more headroom with bigger psu. Stull this is really good quality psu. Normal price is over200. Big save here too.

For video cards all are good. 760 770 780 if you do not want this cheap 680. 760 is good cheap option you can OC it near as fast as the 770
And sli 760 are real killer. It is faster than one 780 or as fast in games.
But cheaper. But you are developping art so I thing best for you is that 680.
