Wired Connection using Wireless Repeater

Just recently, the WLAN card on my desktop was broken. I was thinking of buying a repeater, then connecting it to the CPU using a Ethernet cable. So technically, I will be using the repeater as a wired connection instead of a wireless one. Is this possible?

Which types do you recommend? I saw there are different types. Ones that look like routers, and ones looking like power adapters like these: http://www.trait-tech.com/uploads/details/T-NB-1001-2__wireless-range-extender.jpg
