I'm looking at a Sapphire 7950 for $200, but can't decide if it's worth the gamble to wait on a price drop when the new cards are released(whenever that is?). Rebate ends on 9/30/13. They just added Saints Row IV to the package of free games which I could sell to help pay for the card.

This is my first build and my main goal is to save money while getting the most bang for my buck.

Jump on this deal or wait?

If it's this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127737 I'd avoid it, the 7950, like most AMD cards produces more heat than its Nvidia rivals and that single, dainty fan is simply not enough to tame that output.
As a side note I'm running an XFX 7950 DD card (stock 800/1250) on a 1080 screen with a 'modestly' overclocked i5 750 and there's noting in my library it can't play smoothly at very high or even fully maxed out settings.

Rather wait a few weeks.. The New AMD cards are supposedly going to be officially announced at the beginning of October and then should be commercially available by mid-October. At that time, it will result in the old 7900 series card prices to drop.. and u probably could get a HD 7970 for the same price you are paying now for a HD 7950. The HD 7970 is superior and, in my opinion, is probably the best card out there now in terms of performance/money ratio.

I'm not convinced the prices will drop much, AMD is already pushing the 7xxx series very hard and the speculation that they are running stocks down in preparation for the new releases in October may be true, here in the UK some cards are becoming scarce.
That said, with the release so close I think it would be wise to wait and see what the new releases bring to the table before making a decision, it's not as if the world is going to run out of 7950s in the next few weeks, or even months.

The Gigabyte 7950 has been around $205 for a few weeks now, but I cannot fit that card in my case so it's not an option. It would be nice if the 7970 dropped as low as $200. The MSI 7950(entry level I think?) is at $180, but only one fan isn't very attractive.
