I have a Toshiba C655 laptop. The hard drive went bad In it and I could not get anything off of it.. (a friends and he did not have any recovery disks) He purchased a new hard drive.. I installed it and am trying to install windows 7 onto it from a disk image that I have.. The computer will not boot from the cd.. I know it is trying but it keeps saying check the cable connection

I tried a program I found to install the image onto a usb key but I get the message. error loading operating system.. any suggestions?

Yes i do.

The laptop has a key to enter the bios.
The key to do this can be F1, F2,esc or Del key a second or two after power up.
The splash screen should tell you what key to press to enter the bios also.

You need to do one or two things.

A. Set the boot order of devices, in what we call the boot list.

1. CD/DVD rom drive.
2. New hard drive.

You may also have to change the interface used.
There will be an option in the bios that sets the modes.

Sata or Ahci.
If the mode is set to sata change it to Ahci mode.
Save the settings before exiting the bios.
Insert the windows cd/dvd in the drive.
Restart you should get a message press any key to boot.

The cd rom is the first choice and then the hdd.. I do not see where to change the SATA or ACHI should that be in the same place that I change the boot order? Thanks.
