Ok, so I really shouldn't concern myself with latency and whatnot...faster is always better (when stressing the memory)?

Yeah, while I don't want to say that CAS latency isn't important now, it's not as important s it once was. At top speed, the 2133 will perform better because it has a higher top speed.

wow i just learned something...didn't know that RAM might have a compatibility issue with your MB...just thought all was compatible..thanks

The question was is cas latency or frequency more important for a faster overall ram experience, the answer being frequency. And since the price difference is 3 dollars, I'd go with the higher frequency RAM, even if it doesn't give you a huge difference in RW performance.

It's actually a combo of the two if you look at reg, basic DRAM say at these freqs

1600/9 1866/10 2133/11 2400/12 with each one going you you gain a bit of a performance edge, however if you look to higher with a better CL (CAS) at times, the lower frew will outperform the higher freq, i.e. with the basic sets above say you go for the fastest the 2400/12 and find a set of 1866/8 or 9 they will actually outperform the 2400/12 as 1866/8 equates roughly to 2400/10 (the CAS is how long it takes to perform an action, in effect)

The chances of a normal person noticing the difference with DDR3 is next to none. You're correct, but its such a minuscule difference you can pretty much write it off.

You can write it off if YOU wish, when I can sit clients at two identical systems (except for DRAM) in a blind situation (they don't know of any differences) and have them work the rigs they way they normally do at work and then over 85% of the time the pick the rig with faster DRAM as being a better rig - to me - that's real world ;) particularly when they are people that work the rigs and are used to high performance - see it here in the forums also, people breaking away from thse same old, same old suggestions to just get 1600 and buy higher end DRAM and they come back talking about how fast they are now

You lost me, maybe we're in agreement and I just missed something. Are you saying he should go with the higher speed ram (i.e the 2133MHz RAM) and not the lower cas latency?

I'm saying if you go with higher freq performance DRAM it will provide a noticeable difference, however higher freq alone doesn't do it, it's a combo of the CL and the freq....it can be miniscule if you get say 1600/9 and 2133/11 which just follows the step progression of 1600/9 1866/10 2133/11 but toss in a GOOD combo of 2133/9 vs 1600/9 and you'll see much more of a difference, especially if multi-tasking, imaging, video work, CAD, GIS, VMs....anything memory centric
