Hi,

this refers to connecting a phone to a Windows XP SP3 computer via USB.

I have an android smartphone, LG Optimus LG 7 II (LGP710), which used to connect to my PC either via wifi or via USB, both just under Windows as well as under the LG PC Suite, which is a program for connecting phone & PC.

Then I bought a large memory card for the phone and wanted to move as much as possible of smart phone on the internal memory to the memory card. To do this, I tried the following hack: http://www.bongizmo.com/blog/moving-all-android-apps-to-sdcard-apps2sd-froyo/

While I'm usually good at following such instructions, something didn't work. I couldn't use the described method to transfer apps to the external card.

Which is not a big deal - except that after my failed attempt now the phone doesn't connect to Windows or to the LG PC Suite any more.

When I connect the phone via USB now, Windows' Found New Hardware Wizard pops up. It still is able to install the phone as MTP device using c:\windows\inf\wdpmtp.inf (but - nuisance - it needs to go through the wizard and installation from scratch each time the phone is connected).

Other connection types, including the LG PC suite, result in the wizard fruitless searching of the wizard, and it keeps popping up again and again.

I suspect my attempt of installing that Google USB driver, as described in the above hack messed up my drivers.

How can I undo that installation attempt or restore the original USB driver situation?

Would a commercial product like DriveBooster Pro for $30 be able to fix my problem?

Thanks for reading my lengthy problem!

Peter

Have you tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling/removing the USB ports? If not, go into Device Manager, remove the USB ports, shut down the computer, restart the computer and it should tell you that new hardware was detected and proceed to install the USB drivers.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ken.

If I remove & let the computer reinstall, will this work from "within" Windows? Because I don't have any Windows CD for this OEM Windows.

Before I try I just want to double check so that the damage does not get greater, because right now I still can, for example, attach a USB memory stick and it works. Just the phone connection is affected by the problem.

I am just looking at the Device Manager. Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" there are 23 various USB items (Intel ICH9 Family USB ... P1100 USB EWS Driver ... USB Composite Device ... USB Mass Storage Device ... USB Printing Support ... USB Root Hub ... one "Unknown Device")

Would you suggest I uninstall all of them? Or just some? Which ones? Can I show you a screenshot of that part of the device manager window (but how? I don't seem to be able to attach a file here, just URLs)

Thanks again for your help!

Hi there, my moneys on the google usb driver. Ive had this happen many many times and its very frustrating. You should re install the LG PC suit. Since the computers gotten confused. If that doesnt work then uninstall the google usb driver then reinstall the suite. Hope that helps
