A couple of months ago my system started freezing occasionally while starting up with the drive light permenantly on but at no specific point. A reset used to clear it up however recently it freezes as before but will not complete windows boot despite numerous resets.
I have researched intensively and tried:
- msconfig disable all startup processes
- memtest
- clean install (vista)
- new SATA cable
- removed all other components including DVD drive
- replaced CMOS battery
This week I bought a new HDD which freezes up during the Vista install with the message that all required files are not available, as if the drive is suddenly disconnected.
Before I spend more money and get a new PSU is there anything else I should try???
