I can't log into my administrator account. I receive the 'User Profile Service failed log in' message. I have a standard account that I can log onto and can still perform tasks that don't require a User Account Access password, such as System Restore or editing the registry. I didn't make any changes to my computer leading up to this problem.

That seems to be popping up quite a bit on here lately. I recently did a repair by editing the registry on a friend's computer. I used Method 1 as outlined on this link by Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
The method listed above will require you to boot into safe mode as an administrator. I used the friend's user name and password and was able to login as an administrator and edit the registry. You might want to try a system restore first as was suggested by GeekThief. If you choose the registry edit method be sure to backup the registry first.

i have seen a lot of this over the last 2 weeks.
90% off the time you can fix it by doing a systems restore back 7 days or so in windows repair.
you can access windows repair by pressing F8 as your pc boots or from the windows 7 install dvd

Since i have windows 8, would i so it the same way? Im having the same problem. I cant get into my Admin account.

You would be better served to start your own thread in the Windows 8 forum to get help with your question. You're more likely to get the answer that way.

I had the same problem, and because I couldn't log in as an administrator, I wasn't able to download anything and couldn't use system restore either. So I restarted my computer in safe mode, I found a second version of my administrator account in the user accounts that I didn't put there, and deleted it, Then I changed the settings of a different general account I already had, to an administrator account. I then restarted the computer. The new admin account works fine. I can now log in to the initial administrator account also, but it seems to still have some issues.
