Hi,
I need to replace the video card in my HP Black Pavilion Slimline s5713w-b. I see a MSI ATI Radeon HD6450 1 GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card R6450-MD1GD3/LP on amazon.com and want to know if that is compatible with the computer. The specifications of the computer say: VIDEO GRAPHICS • NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE integrated graphics(16)
• Up to 1407MB Total Available Graphics Memory
as allocated by Windows® 7 Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)

Yepp, it'll be perfectly compatible. Though it's cheaper here...

Just a word of warning, this is good as a replacement but it's not going to be a much of an "upgrade" if that's what you were expecting your purchase to be, though you might see a tiny performance increase in graphical applications overall.

UPDATE: Also note that you're not going to be "replacing" your Graphics Card since you never had a graphics card in the first place. The graphics device in your computer is built into the motherboard, and isn't removeable. you can still add the Radeon HD 6450 to one of the PCIe slots, you just have to make sure you select it through the BIOS to see its effects.

Please see the update to the post I made above, but if the issue is that your monitor isn't coming on then make sure the issue isn't your monitor first. Even without a graphics card, many CPUs have the capability to process graphics on some level. It should at the very least be able to give you a warning message that your graphics card has failed. I recommend you troubleshoot this issue first by seeing if the display still doesn't work when you connect to another monitor or a television.

I had warning messages, but didn't pay attention to what they said :)
The computer would turn on, then a minute later...monitor going to sleep, and did not come back on. I spoke to a few techie friends and they all believe it was the video card. I already dusted the fans, did a reseat of RAM...monitor still in the dark...next up, buy video card and have someone install :)
