So the PSU would not be plugged in and turned off - I 'm thinking of connecting the crocodile clip of the band to the one of the plug's pins.

Is this okay/correct? Would do the case but most of my case is painted black! Heard painted metal is no go.

I do. But that said, could you link me to anywhere definitive that says you need an earthed ground as opposed to being at the same electrical potential as the equipment you are working with?

As I was under the impression that the latter was what one should be looking for...

Fair enough. Though I wonder, for everything to be at the same electrical potential then everything needs to be (earth) grounded correct? How does one ground the motherboard? Or is that assumed to never build up any static charge hence it is equivalent to being grounded? Anyway...

Another related question - I was thinking of assembling my rig on a wooden floor, whilst sitting on the floor...will my jog-bottom covered arse rubbing against the floor generate significant static?

Is it okay/better to place one of those foam jigsaw mats on the wooden floor and sit on that? Mainly want to do it for the comfort :p i.e. these http://www.blitzsport.com/20mm-Jigsaw-Mats

Or/and, would placing a layer of cardboard between the wooden floor and everything else be better/worse?
