Hi there, I have the above CPU and I have been trying to OC my processor to better run programs and games.
I've used the AMD OC Utility which came with my mobo and allows me to adjust the frequency and the voltage of the cpu and not the multiplier or FSB. Upon increasing the frequency only it increased my frequency but the system became very unstable. I tried to run Prime95 and on a few occasions it system rebooted. My reaction is that I think the voltage isn't enough. How much do I need to compensate this increase of frequency.

I forgot to add the following current specs that I am using: AMD Phenom X4 9500. Core Speed default (2210.10MHz. x11.0. 200.9Mhz Bus Speed. HT Link 1004.5-.6. Running on 1.264V)

I know the best way to OC is in the bios. I've looked for guides online but they don't seem to be specific on how I can OC my CPU since I am using an old chip. I've not changed the bios too much as a precaution that it might break the CPU. So that's one and a half questions that I need help with. Any suggestions?

Thanks Tom's Hardware community!

Some more research leads me to believe you aren't going to achieve great clocks with that CPU, I'm finding numbers in the 2.5-2.7GHz range. What cooling are you using for the CPU?

Hi thanks for your reply. I am using OS Windows XP 32bit, AMD Phenom X4 9500 (running at default at 2210.10MHz. x11.0. 200.9Mhz Bus Speed), DVD drive, TX650 Corsair PSU, Sapphire HD 7770

Just a tad bit more info... motherboard and ram (a link to exact ram kit is best for me)
Basically what you're going to be looking to do is lower your ram frequency and your PCIe frequency to begin with. That will allow you to increase your FSB without overwhelming the bandwidth of the ram or graphics. From there you'll work your CPU to it's limit and then set up your ram and graphics lanes to their limits (or specs). I'm still looking for a "good" guide that is explanatory without simply saying "try this..." which will tell you what effect the settings changed will have as you go (I know they're out there, I've read more than a few) locating the good ones seems to be a little challenging but here is one - you can ignore the Phenom II title, your Phenom I works pretty much the same way http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596023
Read over the guide there, try to understand as much as possible, then read it over again (a lot of reading, I know). Ask for clarification if needed (the guide is thorough)
PS. still want mobo and ram info

Oops I missed out on those info. My mobo is N68C-GS FX http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/N68C-GS%20FX/

Ram is Transcend I think
