I have removed my WD Green 2TB HDD from my WD Media Player and plugged it into my desktop. The drive shows up in My Computer and a "Local Disk" but there is not capacity bar telling me how full it is. I have attempted to Format it by right clicking and selecting format, but I get an error telling me the format could not be completed.

Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Solution
WD use there own set of tools to format and prep the drive.
Some also require a driver to be loaded into windows.
I presume the drive was a usb connection, and on opening the WD drive enclosure it there was a bridge board from a Sata drive to usb port.

The reason with some drives or external devices they make is because of the control board used to bridge the drive type Sata for example to a usb connection.

In windows 7, click start.
in the search box type: DISK MAN.
Click on format disks or create partitions.
A windows will open.
The drive should be listed with the overall size, free space and the format type.
