Hi, I'm looking for some advice regarding a budget gaming rig i'm putting together after moving and having to sell my previous rig to fund the move! I'm looking for a half decent, relatively future proof system. My main issue is I'm not sure what route to go down I.E. do I go for and AMD based system with an FX series chip or A series chip? of do i spend a little extra and go for an I3 or I5 i know that ultimately the I3 or I5 will give me better performance as a whole but will eat into my budget meaning I'll have to sacrifice the Graphics card, which also is a bit of an issue in that i'm not sure whether to go fo Nvidia or AMD? Anyway any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

This is what I recommend to you. This is really awesome.

+ 6 Core FX 6300, highly overclockable
+ 7950 is a beast for gaming.
+ 8Gb RAM is ideal for gaming.
+ Enermax ETS-T40 is a very good Air cooler.
+ Bitfenix Shinobi is a very good performing case and also has a side window.
+ An awesome Asus monitor with 2ms response time.
+ A decent motherboard that is able to overclock pretty well for the price. (has everything 6 Sata 3 ports, USB 3.0 =, 4+2 phase VRM, Asus Quality, everything..)

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor (£82.79 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: Enermax ETS-T40-TB 86.7 CFM CPU Cooler (£28.00 @ Amazon UK)...

What is your top dollar for a rig, and what are you planning to do with it? Are you planning to overclock it?

I have a budget of around £750 but that also needs to cover OEM operating system and a monitor so about £650 solely for components. I do plan to overclock and I live in the UK and have been looking at the like of Ebuyer.

I will be using it mainly for light gaming for games like shogun total war 2, Rome total war 2, Starcraft 2 etc i did originally think something like this

AMD FX6300
8GB DDR3 1600
1TB HDD
AMD HD7870

with standard budget Mobi, opitical drive etc

This is probably pretty overboard, but if your like me then you want this computer to be upgradable for the 3-10 years roughly.

Thank's a lot for your input, this system looks perfect! I didn't realize there was a UK version of "Parts Picker". So from your point of view is the the best system I could expect from my budget? it looks great pretty much what i was thinking! Any ideas of overall performance and benchmarks?

Cheers,

The only changes i would make would be the operating system would prefer windows 7 and maybe a smaller monitor perhaps 20" due to space!

1. I do not recommend that case just because I have never heard about it before, buying cases from unknown brands can be a problem because they have sub par cooling mostly.

2. The 8320 has no advantage over the 6 core 6300 for gaming. So save money and stick to the FX 6300. For gaming they perform the same. They overclock the same too.

3. Go for that Asus monitor, I mean it is a very good monitor. It is not just screen size, it is the 2ms response time which I consider the sweet spot for gaming. Also for gaming monitor should be at least 1080p.

4. Windows 8 gives better Minimum frames in most games, but yeah if you prefer Windows 7, then I would leave that upto you.

5. The Enermax T40 has better cooling than the Cooler Master Hyper 212. I saw it in the reviews.

6. XFX's PSU that I recommended is of better quality than the OCZ's, so consider that option.
