Approximate Purchase Date: 1 Month

Budget Range: $1500 max

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing, word processing

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon, cheaper the better

Location: Houston, Texas

Parts Preferences: For some reason I seem to be partial to Intel/Nvidia

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I would like to future proof this system as much as possible, and I would like opinions on the case especially. I looked for hours but I just can't make up my mind on a case! Also what about adding an SSD, is it that big of a deal?

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I have decided to not buy the PS4/XBox One and I would like to get back into PC gaming.

Thanks in advance for any insight guys!

What I have so far: pcpartpicker

Well the SSD you 'can' do without, but it does speed up your system by A LOT (operating system wise - if thats the only thing you've installed on it) also games that are installed on it will LOAD faster (not play better).

If you dont get an SSD, i'd suggest to get a Caviar black HDD (better performance), if you do get an SSD, keep the blue, or even can go Green if you want.

Okay, well when the time comes If I have an extra $100 or so I'll add a 128GB Samsung SSD. Thanks for the input man.

Your build is pretty outdated to be honest. I would upgrade to an i5-4670 and H87 (because you won't be overclocking) chipset, as well as a 770 GPU, which is way better than the 670. Also if I were you I would get an aftermarket cooler for better temps and significantly quieter performance. The CM Hyper 212 EVO is a great choice for only ~$30.

Thanks for the help, most of the guides and builds I looked at were from 2012/early 2013 so it makes sense that the parts I picked would be outdated. Which is exactly why I came here! So with your suggestions I'm at pcpartpicker. A little above my budget, but that's fine. Any thoughts on a great case under $100?

Whichever of the HAF line by Coolermaster fits your size needs.
