Hey guys,

I am pulling my hair out over this... I have an external sound card (Roland UA-100) that I use to play audio through. It has MIDI connections at the back which are connected to my keyboard and I use it with Cubase Studio 4.

The problem is that the Roland UA-100 is only compatible with Win 2000/XP. I have recently updated my computer to Windows 7 ultimate. Now the Roland UA-100 can not be used, the driver does not work on my operating system.

To remedy this I installed windows XP mode on Windows 7 and tried to install the hardware driver but it is not working.

What is the best way to solve this problem?

Solution
Get a new audio device. Sadly, like printers, old audio devices are left out to pasture without support. I got lucky, I have an old Tascam US-428 that is about 10 years old now, but they at least had support up to Vista 64 bit for it, and the Vista drivers work in 7 and 8, so I can still use the device as it functions fine, records my audio, does what I need, but they stopped supporting yours at XP, you might be out of luck.

Haha! Yes I do, they are crucial, Cubase uses the MIDI outputs from my keyboard. When I bought my computer second hand it came without a sound card, so I have been using this Roland UA-100 ever since. Otherwise I would just use a MIDI USB cable. Thanks :)

Hehe... I don't think so :) . Just for those who were struggling with a similar issue, I know how frustrating it is to find half threads ;) , I have decided to go with what is called (and I didn't know this) an audio interfaces, perhaps the M-Audio fast track. Thanks for the help guys, I am at peace.
