Heya all,

I realize I could spend some time to search forums etc.. But unfortunately I find myself in a time constraint. I need to go buy a monitor in the next 2-3 hours.

Long story short: PC parts arrived a lot sooner than expected, need to build tonight.

From the little I know, there are IPS monitors, and TN monitors.
IPS = crisper image
TN = faster response time.

The monitor will be used almost exclusively for games.

I think a size of 23 inches is good? Or should i get bigger..? Seating distance should be around 40-50cm from the Screen.

What type/brand should I get?

Budget is around 200-250 euros, bare in mind this is in Greece, so if you're in the US, price should be the same but in USD (not converted, i.e. 200-250 USD) since electronics are 30-40% more expensive here.

Last week had a quick view of monitors at the shop, and the dude there was adamant about one particular monitor, LG frameless, i think it was this one: http://www.e-shop.gr/product?id=PER.169837

Any advice is much appreciated!

Yes, you want an IPS (not ISP!) - In-Plane-Switching montior. It is a superior technology to TN (twisted nematic) found in most monitors when it comes to color accuracy. Images will look more 3D and "pop" more simply because the monitor can render more tints and shades of colors. The "tradeoff" with an IPS is supposed to be response time, but if you do some googling, you will find that this is a negligible difference.

Look for an ASUS PB238Q. I just bought one a month ago and it's awesome. I'm a big fan of ASUS monitors in general. This one blows my old VW246h out of the water. It has (to my eyes) a faster response time than my old TN panel and others who have used it have complimented me on the excellent color, brightness, and response time.

If I had my druthers and couldn't find the PB238Q anywhere, I would look for a 23 or 24" ASUS VG series - it is a TN panel but I have heard the 120 Hz. refresh rate looks very nice with games. Personally I happen to care about image quality more and didn't feel like paying out the butt for a high-performance graphics card that could do 120 Hz.

Cheers mate for the quick response.

That monitor is 500 bucks here hahaha.. And unfortunately is only available through international order, they dont have Asus at the shop..:(

That being said, would you trust LG? The shop also has Samsung, and AOC.
