Hi all,

In my previous build, I was going to go with a overclocked 3930k, but for money reasons, I must go for a 3770k. Plus apparently the 3770k encodes most video better o_O.

Anyways. I will have a 3770k and a ASUS GTX 780 DCII GPU with a 250 GB SSD and 1TB HDD. I am planning to add another 780 in the future. Will a 850 watt PSU be enough to handle the overall power when the CPU and GPU are OCed? I'm planning to clock the 3770k at 4.5 as a final clock.

Thanks in advance. ^_^

A quality 650 Watt PSU will be more than enough for your system. 850 Watts if you're going for an SLi setup. I recommend this PSU for your setup -

Seasonic P series 660 Watt 80+ Platinum rated modular PSU - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/660w-seasonic-platinum-ss-660xp2-full-modular-80-plus-platinum-92-eff-eps-12v-sli-crossfire-atx

Possibly the best platinum rated Power Supply Unit on the market today. Will supply your system with the most stable power possible. It is rated Platinum for the best efficiency of a PSU, saving money on your electricity bills at the same time. Rated Tier one in the Egg Xpert PSU tier list here (well, I kind of refurbished it) -...

Hi,

Yeah, it will be enough. 250W is GTX 780 consumption on paper. Little bit less in real world. 77W for your 3770k. that's 600W in full load on 12V rail (in crossfire), even when you overclock your 3770k. So you need really good PSU 850W.

Best regards :)

I just ran a PSU calc on your system (I use this one http://www.extreme.outervision.com/). I ran for the dual GPU plus overclocking the 3770k as high as 1.5V/4.6Ghz. Recommended PSU came out at 691W. 12V amps required is 51 Amps, so you'll want to check that on the PSU you're looking to buy. About 20amps is for the system and about 30 amps are required for the 2 GPUs. About 12 Amps for the 2 GPUs would be supplied through the system board PCIe slots. The rest would be supplied by the PCI power connectors. I would check to see how the 12V rails are split on your PSU just to make sure. Ultimately, the amps available at each voltage/rail is what really counts. But as long as you're getting a decent branded PSU at 850W you should be fine.

Wow, thanks everyone for the replies. :D

I think I'll go with a 850 watt psu. I have a feeling that in the future I might switch to a 3930k (or 4930k). Also, vertexx I'll make sure to check that.

Thank you all again. ^_^
