I connect my PS3 to my monitor using a HDMI cable and since my monitor doesn't have speakers I have to use RCA to connect to my speakers.
No matter what I do I can't seem to get them to work.
I've tried RCA to this adapter which then connected to a female to female coupler, that didn't work.
I've then tried connecting my RCA cable to one of these and then to the female to female coupler but that didn't work either.
And before you say it, yes I've changed the settings on my PS3.

I very much doubt that's the case, considering a lot of other PS3 owners use this method to use headphones.

No it doesn't, I would have used that already.
There's only 3 slots, power, HDMI and VGA.

The other end of my coupler is my speakers.

Yeah but why do you need a female to female coupler, what is the specific connection to your speakers.
If they are standard PC speakers then why can you not plug the 3.5 jack of your adaptor cable straight in to eliminate the possibility that the coupler is faulty.

The speaker uses a 3.5mm jack, I don't think it's possible to plug the adapter straight into the speakers.
I tried using my headphones instead of my speakers but that didn't work either.
