The Problem:
When I press the power button, the fans all go, the power LED turns on and the LED on the back panel ethernet turns on. However, there is no beep from the PC speaker and my monitor never seems to get a signal.

I have checked the list of common problems here (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems) with no luck. Although there were a few things that were not completely clear to me. Note, this is my first time assembling a PC from scratch in about 10 years.

Questions:
1. The main cable from the power supply to the motherboard seems to be split into two connectors. One 2x10 (20pin) and one 2x2 (4pin). It seems like some of the pins have rounded corners meaning there is only one way to connect them, but I wanted to make sure I didn't screw that up.

2. Similar to #1, the CPU power cable is split into two 2x2 (4pin) connectors. Again is seems like there is only one correct way to connect them, but I wanted to be sure.

3. Do I need to do anything special to have the motherboard use the VGA video out? It has three connectors, I'm assuming I can use any of the three.

Any suggestions of things to check or ways to gather more information would be greatly appreciated.

Common problems that I believe I have double (triple?) checked:
* Checked ram compatability. (One 4 gig DDR3-1333 card)
* Checked ram position. (tried in slot one as well as slot four)
* Polarity of PC speaker connector (Tried both ways)
* APU orientation/connection. It's in the right way and no pins are bent. Fan is running and paste is not overflowing.

Here is a picture of the APU, RAM and all the power connectors:

Hardware:
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-F2A85XM-D3H FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Memory: (one) G.SKILL Value Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9S-4GBNT
APU: AMD Athlon X2 340 Trinity 3.2GHz Socket FM2 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor AD340XOKHJBOX

Solution
GA-F2A85XM-D3H features:
•Enhanced AMD Radeon HD 8000/7000-series graphics (DX11) integrated with the APU
* To use the onboard graphics ports, you must install an AMD APU with integrated graphics.

The A-Series of APU's does not include the AMD Athlon X2 340 CPU. You need a video card with that CPU.

This was exactly the problem. Many many thanks for helping me out! Ended up dropping $50 on the cheapest video card my local shop had. Feels silly for a headless server, but it got the job done. Thanks for ushering me into the modern era.
