Are G2120 and this mobo compatible?

When I was putting together a list of parts for my build a while back, I was told everything I picked was compatible by several people. Now that I've already ordered ALL of it and recieved most of it, I get told that my cpu might not work with this motherboard. (Why would people wait this long to tell me?) I have the Intel Pentium G2120 and this mobo: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-MicroATX-Motherboard-H61M-P31-W8/dp/B0097WLXW6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379532602&sr=8-1&keywords=h61+msi

I might add that I was told these were compatible, but I see it's an h61 chipset, which is what my friend says is the problem. Advice? Also, I know about the bios thing. I just don't have a sandy bridge cpu that I can plug in until I update the bios. All I have is the G2120. Should I try it, or just send the mobo back and get a new one with a compatible chipset?

It's compatible if the motherboard has BIOS version 2.4 or newer. 2.4 was released April 17th 2012. If your board was manufactured earlier and thus has an older BIOS, the CPU may not work (though it might still be able to boot, and thus allow a BIOS update to enable full compatibility).

I don't have a sandy bridge cpu, so will I have to get one to update the bios?

Since it is listed as supporting PCIe 3.0 x16, it should support Ivy Bridge (you need Ivy Bridge i5/i7 for PCIe 3.0 support) but depending on the board's vintage, it may require a BIOS update to use with Ivy Bridge CPUs.

You might want to look into H77-based motherboards instead.

I looked at the board and see ver. 1.0 printed on it. Shall I send this back and get a different board then?

The board version and BIOS version are two different things.

PCB revisions between the first and last production usually changes very little so you might see the first PCB version being 1.00 and the last one being 1.03 because they moved holes or other minor components/features.

BIOS revisions on the other hand tend to change a lot more. If the product information sticker lacks BIOS version information, I would be inclined to presume it still has the original launch version.

I can't find the bios version on the box or board or anything. So I'm going to assume it's the original BIOS. Should I try to run this board/cpu when the last of the parts arrives, or should I return the mobo now and get a different one?
