I have searched and found that combining a 1gb with a 2gb vid card is no good cause the computer will only see 1gb of useable space. my question is, why does it choose the lower memory card?

because if it pick the 2 gb, it would crash your PC when it try to access the 2gb on the 1gb card.

I would think that it would use 1GB on each card making a total of 2GB
