Connecting PC and Xbox to one Wall Ethernet Cable Using a Switch

I am attempting to hook a PC and a Xbox 360 up to one Ethernet cable in the wall. I am using a short Cat 5 cable that runs from the wall to a switch and then I have 2 Cat6 cables running from the switch to the xbox and pc. I get unidentified network error on my computer and no IP address error on my Xbox with this setup. The connection is fine when just running straight from the wall to the computer but does not work when running from the wall to the xbox. Wondering if anyone has any solutions.

Solution
All I can think is that the wall plate has been incorrectly wired and is essentially a crossover connection, using a crossover ethernet cable would allow this to work.
Most modern equipment auto senses for this hence why the PC works directly and why the switch and xbox dont.

There is a router and a modem. I have tried plugging the other end into both of them.

The same error comes up. Unidentified Network. No internet access. I have proven that the switch works by using on another computer setup but from a different wall plate that is hooked into the same router.

Yes I was just reading a post about wiring being wrong and a computer still working. I will try to find another female ethernet clip and redo the wires correctly. Thanks for the answer. I will try to post back soon with the results.

Do you think you could throw me a link of a diagram or correctly wired one?
