Need help deciding on a build. $950 is the maximum I am willing to spend. Games I play are l4d2, bo2, far cry 3, tf2, minecraft, and dayz. Right now am looking at something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Fex0
but any suggestions are appreciated.

That motherboard overheats. Look at ASUS and Gigabyte.
Get the coolermaster hyper 212 EVO not PLUS.
Drop the thermal paste. The CPU comes with it.
Get 1600mhz RAM for sure.
You need a better PSU. Look at the XFX550 unit. VERY good quality for money.
Drop the sound card. The motherboard will have just as good or better audio.
Maybe drop the SSd and use the money for a better GPU.

You should be bale to do better than an hd7870 for that money even with a monitor and OS.

Well, there is a 660ti for around $220 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Ff9g

Budget version: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Ff9V

You can get an hd7950 for less than that 660ti. This is the clear choice.

Wow, I never thought they got that low :| http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Ffgj

Change CPU to this
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8320frhkbox

take out the thermal paste and switch the CPU cooler for the Hyper 212 evo

The SSD and the HDD are not really great for the money
Couple more $s in and you can get a 128GB(double the space for a bit more)

and you can get double the space of the HDD for a bit more

I am not a fan of MSI motherboards as i had many fail on me. I usually get ASrock, ASUS, and Gigabyte as i have had a great time with most of their products(will get one that fails once in a while but i had far too many from MSI. I have heard that they have gotten better on their newer products though.)

This ram is just a bit more but has more speed

Cheaper KB/M

If there is still room for some extra money to be spent, the 7950 is a great buy and comes with 3 free games(7870 comes with 2)

nice use of funds. my main concern is your motherboard. it is not good enough to run a 8 core 125W FX cpu. Change that to a ga-970a-ud3 and you've got yourself a good build. you can also safely swap the cpu to the cheaper 8320, it's the same cpu just underclocked. they're binned the same and will overclock to the same numbers the 8350 will (if you look at the top overclocking results of the 8 core piledrivers you'll see just as many 8320s as you do 8350s... so they're an IDENTICAL chip, save yourself $20, get the 8320, use that 20 to get a better motherboard)

For PSU you want to stick with Antec(always had a good time with them, still have a 650W earthwatts still running in my brothers system), Corsair(i suggest staying away from the CX models), NZXT(to a point, their newer stuff is pretty good), Rosewill(to a point, mostly get it when it is fairly cheap), Seasonic(one of the best and other big groups use it as a base(OEM) Corsair, XFX, NZXT, and some others), and XFX.

Also i suggest dropping the sound card unless you have a decent pair of headphones(don't get headsets)

the motherboard is still no good for a 8 core 125W FX cpu. if you want to go with asus the minimum motherboard you could go with would be a m5a97 r2.0 (not the LE version), and even that motherboard will struggle with the 8 core (if you were going with the 6300 or 4300 it would be fine, but a 125W cpu is about at the limits of what that board can manage)... seriously bro... if you plan any overclocking don't screw with the motherboard choice, you really probably need a 8+2 power phase design with a heatsink on the mosfets to overclock those 8 core AMD beasts. the cheapest board that fits that bill is the ga-970a-ud3.

I think I'll get a 6300 then.
