I just built a PC and the optical drive is not working. I got it to work during start up. Yes, I did check my connections and everything is connected correctly.

Define not working in your case:

-Doesn't even open
-Won't spin up disks
-Disk spins but doesn't read

On start up, it will open. It no longer opens after installing win 8. I was able to open it to get win 8 installed, but now is stuck closed. The button does nothing. It is an Asus basic drive with an FX 6300 and an MSI mobo, if that helps.

Try a different sata power connection maybe? If that doesn't work, try it in another PC, if that doesn't, it may have just died and RMA it.

I somehow fixed it. I unplugged it completely, then it wanted to work. XD You get the best solution for the suggestion that worked.
