I have an ASUS P7P55D Pro Mobo.
I want the faster MHz I can get right now I was Looking at a Patriot 2x8 Viper 3 set at 1866 MHz . but the specs for the mobo say ................

4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 2200(O.C.)*/1600/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel memory architecture
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)
*Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs. Some hyper DIMMs only support one DIMM per channel. Please refer to Memory QVL for details.

so it looks like 1600 is the best i can get or would the 1866 MHz still work since it can oc to 2200.

Just dont want to waste a bunch of cash on something that is not right for my system .

Solution
You're limited to 4GB sticks, 16 GB total across 4 sticks, as far as freq, the 'OC' means you can run DRAM up to 2200 but an OC of the CPU/System may required to reach that freq w/ your DRAM - what you can actually run depends in large part on your CPU and the MC (memory controller)....the 1156 CPUs can pretty much all handle 1866 sticks
