I have a coolermaster fan connected via 3 pin molex to the motherboard but it is running at only 800ish rpm. I doubt that would be the actual max speed for a 120mm fan but how do I increase the speed? I've already tried increasing the speed via speedfan but it seems to do nothing.

some fans have low rpm, or maybe it is being controlled by something else that is overriding speedfan? try using a different fan just to see, something you know can go above 800

What MB? It probably is controlled in BIOS. You can change that if you want, but it will get louder. Most folks like the BIOS speed control. Keeps things quiet until needed. Then when the MB gets warm, the speed will increase.

Turns out I just needed to take the fan off auto mode in the BIOS. Now I can freely control it via speedfan.
