hello i currently have an amd athlon 64 X2 dual core 6000+ 3.0 Ghz cpu and my friend gave me his old phenom 1 X4 9600 2.4 Ghz cpu my question is since resident evil 5 supposedly runs better on more then 2 cores will upgrading from the faster dual core to the slower quad core give me better gaming performance btw if this helps i have a 1 gig 4890 gpu and 4 gigs of memory so will switching to the 4 core be better for resident evil 5 even tho the quad core is slower

I doubt you'd see much difference. Tom's only rates the 2 processors 1 tier apart in their Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart:

But more importantly, which MB do you have? It may not recognize the Phenom X4.

If your board supports the Phenom X4 and you have a late enough BIOS to recognize it, yes. O/C'ing It may help. But even the aged HD 489o is holding you back if you're gaming at 1920x1080. The HD 4890 is about equal to today's HD 7750.
