Computer powers up, CPU/PSU fans are spinning, ram and front panel LEDs light up, HDD is also active, it's just that the monitor doesn't display anything, there's no POST beep of any kind, there is instead, a strange continuous crackling noise coming from the internal speaker. I've tried plugging out the 4-pin internal speaker cord from the mobo and the crackling noise goes away but PC still won't boot. Both the 4-pin and 20-pin PSU power connectors are firmly plugged in and I made sure the CPU heatsink is also properly seated.

Have had this build for years. This just happened overnight, and since I didn't tamper with it in any way, I cannot backtrace the issue. Tried removing hdd, graphics card and ram modules to see if I get any POST beep, but that didn't work. Removing the mobo battery and clearing the CMOS didn't help either.

Jack most times faults like yours is a leg in the power supply dropping out. Try a test power supply.

Just installed a fully working PSU and still no boot. What should I look into next?

Try a new CMOS battery and try to clear the CMOS. If no change look on the mb for a failed cap. On older mb they can swell or pop from age. When they do your rig will just die.
