I recently replaced my laptop's HDD with a 128Gb Samsung 840 Pro. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege r835-p56x. I've installed all of the drivers, Windows 7 is fully updated. The CPU is running much hotter than it ever did before, and at times when it isn't under a lot of stress. Here are a few speedfan screenshots, taken at different times:

Right after resuming from sleep mode:

With only Google Chrome open, with only 1 tab open to tomshardware, in a 70 Fahrenheit classroom:

Just a moment ago, it was around those same high temps, even though nothing was open, so I just put it to sleep.

The case/fan isn't dusty at all. Any idea what might be causing this? Could it be a driver issue? As you can see, the temp of the SSD is fine. It's working fine speed-wise, just making my fan run at full speed, which is slightly annoying.

Any help is appreciated.

Solution
There is no way that I can think of in my 20 plus years of experiance with computer did this SSD drive raise your temps first off a ssd drive runs very cool its not like the drive you pulled so maybe when you installed this drive into the laptop you didnt reassemble something right and thats why your Temps are so high do me a favor remove the sdd drive replace with your old one and run tests im sure you will see the mechanical drive will produce far more heat then the a SSD DRIVE.

yeah there is something screwy here.if your cpu is truly running at these temps you should notice pronounced throttling or even freezing or shutdown.also the temp listed for your hdd is more like the temps would be on a traditional hdd.check cpu temp in your bios and maybe try another temp monitor like hwmoniter or occt which will also give temp readings.

Everything runs faster causing the heat buildup: the processors are no longer waiting for the hard drive as much, and can do more work. Unfortunately this means they get hotter, and the cooling fans spend more time running to cool them down. While the drive has got quieter and cooler, the massive speed increase has caused the machine as a whole to get louder and hotter!

I have installed 6 in the past few weeks and the result is consistent increase in heat on 4 i3s and 2 i5s.
