Hey Tom's

A month ago i bought a new cpu, motherboard and Gpu, because the stuff i had before was getting slow, but nothing pretty much changed when i put the new in.

Cpu:
Old Cpu: Amd 955 BE oc 3.4 ghz
New Cpu Amd Fx 8350 oc 4.3 ghz

Motherboard:
Old Motherboard:Asus M487LT
New Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990fx R.2

Gpu:
Old Gpu: Ati Hd 5770
New Gpu: GTX 660 msi twinfrozr

8 GB ram 1600 hz
HDD WD 500 GB.

All old hardware is 3-4 years old.

Do i need to reinstall a new OS or get a ssd instead of HDD?

Please help.
Thanks.

Yes you need to reinstall Windows. It is configured for your old system. At the very least you need to make sure you have all the newest drivers but a reinstall is best when changing motherboards. You are actually lucky it booted.

An SSD is a great idea in any system but is not necessary. In my opinion adding an SSD is the single best thing you can do to improve overall system responsiveness.

Should i add a SSD on 128 GB or 256 GB?

With an SSD go with the largest you can afford. I have made do with a 120GB Vertex 2 for 3 years now and it gets tiring having to uninstall old games to install new ones. I am about to upgrade to a 512GB model very soon due to how much the prices have come down. I consider 120GB to be a minimum size. You will need to keep 20% of an SSD as free space for TRIM to work correctly. Since a 120GB drive formatted is 111GB that means you need to keep 22GB free.

Personally I would go with a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB model. Or a 500GB version if you can afford it. Samsung drives are about the most reliable and fastest drives on the market.

Stop feeding people garbage because you love Intel and hate AMD. If he ran a 125W 955BE, then he can run a 125W 8350 no sweat.

ENTIRELY WRONG...my 8350 is OC'ed to 4.4 (see CPU-Z validation in my sig for proof).

My CPU does not draw anywhere near the entirely fictional 300W you claim.

Quit your BS.

EDIT: The 9570 is 4.7 with 5.0 turbo and it only draws ~240W peak. How on earth can you claim a LOWER TDP chip overclocked to a LOWER FREQUENCY can draw more power?

FALSE EQUIVALENCY KING!!!

That's entire system power draw, including a GPU which draws far more power than the CPU.

Nice try Master of Misinformation!

The Bit-tech article measures the entire system.

" However, for the power consumption tests we re-enable everything in order to get a real-world power draw. The power draw is measured via a power meter at the wall, so the numbers below are of total system power draw from the mains, not the power consumption of a CPU itself. Measuring the power draw of any individual component in a PC is tricky to impossible to acheive."

Yes the FX series are power hogs compared to Intel. They are also inferior with IPC. The very high clock speed of the newer chips helps though. But yeah in most cases an FX chip at ~4.5Ghz is slightly less powerful than an i5 or i7 at stock speeds. At least in gaming. There are a few exceptions but not many.

Well, the second part is a bit underhanded...however, you clearly see the fallacy of his claims and you seem to be fond of Intel as well. Maybe he will listen to you...you 2 can..."Intel speak". As it must clearly be a language other than English...he doesn't understand that at all.

I ran my fx8320, oc'd, with a oc'd hd7850, on a 500w Corsair psu. The thing ran fine. I have upgraded to a 850w, but, that's for future upgrades.

WTF said AMD cpus don't multitask well? If anything, I heard intel is crap for doing things such as recording game play. My computer's a multitasking beast. I've yet to have it so much as stutter while doing many things.

Let's keep it civil and keep the fanboyism to a minimum though shall we? I was only asked to be a mod after the last post in this thread or there would have been earlier warnings.

Intel vs AMD has been played 10 million times in the last month alone. If you want to know who does what better go look at the benchmarks. No need to post in a month old thread just to pour gas on the fire.
