Yes, I should let it die but I want to make my 8 year old Dell Inspiron 9300 last a little bit longer (I have bought a new laptop now but handy to have a permanent computer out in my shed).

Existing RAM is 2 x "512MB 2Rx16 PC2-4200S-444-10-A1". I want to upgrade to max of 2 x 1GB of RAM but want to know what is compatable.

I have found two second hand 1GB, one being "1GB 2Rx8 PC2-4200S-444-12-E3" and the other
"1GB 2Rx8 PC2-4200S-444-12-E0" does the x8 matter (density) or the difference between E3 and E0 when mine is A1.

From what I have read I can go up to 5300S speed but maybe not as far as 6400S

Cheers,
Hayden

Solution
From what I've seen e0 and e3 are more for server modules you might want to run this on your dell to find optimal ram for your computer http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/

Out of interest to anyone this RAM did end up working, sped up my computer marginally which makes it a little bit more bearable when using it :)
