AMD FX-8350 Too Hot?

After about 45 minutes of Far Cry 3 my temps are a max of 76c for core temp and 61c for the socket temp is this safe and how is it possible for the core temp to be more that the socket? the reason i list the case is because i suspect this is being caused by bad air flow im also getting random shut downs while playing games just like someone pulled the plug

MSI 890FXA-GD70 mainboard
8gb of gskill sniper
AMD FX-8350 with cooler master hyper 212
case is a Raidmax Aeolus

About the shutdowns, its possibli a power issue. Do you have a good solid PSU?
  2. Check if you applied the thermal paste correctly. It is possible that the shutdowns occur due to the excess heat from the CPU. The temps that you just shared with us are temps under 100% load with the stock cooler!!! Are you running at stock speeds? One thing is for sure, there is something wrong with your setup. Those temps are NOT normal. (Try leaving the side door of your case open, and try again)

i believe its and apevia 750w but ive had it for 2 years so its possible that it has declined enough that its no longer 750w and the fans could be bad too so thats possibly getting to hot also

Hi, reinstall the hyper 212 with new thermal compound and test with another good quality PSU.

i would but i cant get my hands on better thermal compound or a new PSU atm but when i get some money im definitely buying a new case and PSU no clue what case im gonna get yet though

Yep it would be wise to get a better case with better cooling capabilities and a new PSU, when you're ready to buy the new stuff just let us know :)

    im open to suggestions :)
  10. Whats the ambient temperature where you live(it could be the reason was a hot summer my 8120 was hitting 79c @ while the ambient temp was 30-35 now its hitting just 55-57c ambient tem is around 20c now), otherwise chek out drivers for your other components, does it shut down or does it show blue screen?
  11. and one more thing the monitoring software is not always correct
  12. Your 890 MB is also not great for the temps as well. Just wanted to toss that out there, as no one mentioned it. You'd probably be better off running a 990FX MB with good VRM heatsinks, etc.

A good 990 MB for not a lot of money would be something like the Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 or M5A99FX Pro R2.0. Those typically run around $110-130.
