BIOS Setup Hangs AFTER I've entered it

Hi,

I've seen and read loads of posts regarding systems that hang trying to enter BIOS, but mine is hanging after I've entered the BIOS setup utility.

My motherboard is an Asus P7P55D LE, running American Megatrends BIOS version 0605.

I want to update the BIOS to the latest version.

I've tried the Alt F2 approach to get the EZ Flash utility running, but for some reason it doesn't work, so I'm now attempting to flash the BIOS via the BIOS itself.

Hitting DEL at the post screen gets me into the BIOS setup utility with no problem. For a few seconds I can even navigate along the top line and then it freezes. Then, after 5 minutes or so, if I try hitting any key all I get is a 'pinging' noise with each key stroke. My only option then is to reboot, but alas all that happens is that I end up going around the same circle again, and again and again.

Here's hoping the solution is a simple one.

Thanks for reading.

Kevin"

PS: If anyone also knows why the ALT F2 approach to launching the EZ Flash utility is not working then I'd welcome that advice as well

Solution
if you already have the system up and running with an os on it. boot your system up and try using windows flashing utility.

you can also try clearing the cmos by removing the battery from your motherboard and keeping it that way for a couple of minutes. but remember to plug your pc out of the mains before doing this.

see if that works

good luck :)

Is there no on out there with a solution or advice?

Update - on one of my re-tries I managed to get ALT F2 to work and launched EZ Flash and updated the BIOS to the latest release. However, the issue I have with the BIOS hanging AFTER I enter it persists - I've just tried.

Please, I'm no computer wiz and all I want to do is update the BIOS clock, which for some reason reset itself to the factory default.

Hi I'm back again because I've been living with this problem, but it's now beginning to drive me nuts!

I've replaced the CMOS battery, followed every instruction out there to clear the CMOS and BIOS cache, but my problem still continues. I can enter the BIOS setup, but after a couple of seconds the setup freezes and I can do nothing other than power down and reboot.

As background the reason why I am trying to use the BIOS setup is because when I boot-up I am always presented with the F1 or F2 screen. If I take the F2 route windows starts properly, but the date is reset to the default BIOS date which is 01/01/2002. I then have to change the date and time to the current date.

I've read up on this issue too and the solution is to be found in the BIOS set up - but the F1 option leads to the frozen BIOS setup....and so I go round in circles!!

BTW; for good measure I flattened my windows installation and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 64bit - but no change to the boot-up behaviour.

Oh Joy!!!

Hope there is someone out there that can help!!

RAM chip is either loose or not working. If you have two chips, try running with one or the other. I had the same problem with my ASUS P5Q Pro. One 2 GB chip wasnt working. I know this answers late but may help in the future.
