Hi all,

I am going to build a system a graphic designer, and was wondering if I should spent more either in the CPU or the GPU. I've read the requirements for some of the programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and it doesn't help a lot...

This is what I plan to get
Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor ($118.98 Outlet PC )
HIS Radeon HD 7790 GHz Edition 1GB Video Card ($119.99 Newegg)

So I'm planning around 250$ for both components...

Any suggestion?
Thanks

Depends, AMD CPUs tend to be slightly better this. Though in my experience you want as many CPU cores as possible and as much vRAM as possible. The problem is a couple of guys i know who do similar work both uses apple's but I will ask them and get back once I get a response.

while its true in a lot of graphic design software AMD cpus do as well or better then similar priced intel cpus, the truth of the matter is the difference from the slowest to fastest cpu is so small it really doesn't matter unless you like to use a stopwatch. don't let it concern you. if you want an i3, get an i3. i would suggest you look at the cheaper fx6300 but that's up to you.

in the end, you won't be disappointed. as they're both excellent options.

Thanks a lot for your inputs, I guess that my main doubt was if the tools took full advantage of the multicore, which has been answered.
I kind of prefer to get an intel, but I would have a look at the AMD as you are suggesting.

So for the time being I'm thinking of taking boosted1g's recommendation:

MSI Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB Video Card ($69.99 Newegg)
Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($184.99 Newegg)

Regarding the vRAM, I was going to get 8G DDR3 1600, but thinking about it now, maybe I should keep the i3 and go for 16G?
